AÇIKLAMA

A highly quoted statement from Clinton`s grand jury testimony showed that he questioned the exact use of the word “is.” Clinton claimed that his statement that “nothing happens between us” was true because he had no ongoing relationship with Lewinsky at the time of his interrogation, saying, “It depends on what the word `is` means. If the – if it – if it means “is”, it is and never has been, it is not – that is one thing. If that means there isn`t one, that was a completely true statement. [13] Starr obtained further evidence of inappropriate behavior by seizing the computer`s hard drive and Monica Lewinsky`s email recordings. Based on the president`s contradictory statement, Starr concluded that Clinton had committed perjury. Starr presented his findings to Congress in a lengthy document, the Starr Report, which was made available to the public via the Internet a few days later and included descriptions of meetings between Clinton and Lewinsky. [14] Starr was criticized by Democrats for spending $70 million on the investigation. [15] Starr`s critics also claim that his investigation was highly politicized because it regularly leaked snippets of information to the press that violated legal ethics, and because his report contained lengthy, humiliating descriptions unrelated to the court case. [16] [17] PRESIDENT CLINTON: I think what I meant was not to remember what they were, not that I don`t remember if I gave them. And then, when you see, they gave me those details, and I gave them a pretty good explanation here. I remembered very clearly the facts about The Black Dog.

And I said I could have given him a hat pin and a walt Whitman book; that I don`t remember giving him a golden brooch, which was true. I didn`t remember. I may have given it to him, but I didn`t remember giving him one. They didn`t ask me about Christmas gifts, and I don`t know why I didn`t think about saying something about them. But I have to tell you again, I even invited them to have a list. It was obvious to me at this point in the definition, in that statement, that they had, these people had access to a lot of information from somewhere, and I guess it came from Linda Tripp. And I had no interest in not answering their questions about these gifts. I don`t think the gifts are incriminating, nor are they fake, I think it was a good thing to do that. I`m not, I`m still not sorry for giving monica Lewinsky gifts. According to the Webster dictionary, the definition of the word âisâ is: âPresent in the third person singular of be.â Obvious.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Oh, no, I wouldn`t deny it. I just don`t remember. You asked me if I remembered it. I don`t. She could have done it. Mr. WISENBERG: Well, the witness has already testified, I believe Mr. Bennett was not aware of the inappropriate relationship with Ms. Lewinsky. I believe that on December 11, 1998, the House Judiciary Committee agreed to send three articles of impeachment to the plenary of the House for consideration. Voting on two articles, Grand Jury Perjury and Obstruction of Justice, was 21 to 17, both along party lines. In the third, perjury in the Paula Jones case, the committee voted 20-18, with Republican Lindsey Graham joining Democrats in giving President Clinton “the legal advantage of doubt.” [24] The next day, December 12, the committee agreed to send to the plenary a fourth and final article on the abuse of power by 21 votes to 17, again along party lines.

[25] Clinton was defended by Cheryl Mills. Clinton`s advisers included Charles Ruff, David E. Kendall, Dale Bumpers, Bruce Lindsey, Nicole Seligman, Lanny A. Breuer, and Gregory B. Craig. [36] (After which the proceedings were suspended from 2:38 p.m. to 2:48 p.m.) Spoiler: Clinton has not been removed from office. The House of Representatives voted in favor of impeachment. The Senate acquitted Clinton, though it was probably tighter than Clinton might have hoped.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Well, my recollection is that maybe because of the change in circumstances in her own life in 1997, after there was no more inappropriate contact, she sent me more things in the mail, and sometimes there was some kind of separation between what she was saying and the simple facts of our relationship. And I don`t know what caused that. But maybe it was dissatisfaction for the rest of his life. I don`t know. You know, she`d been telling me about the rest of her personal life since I first met her, and maybe there`s a reason for that. It may be that when I did the right thing and glued it, in a way, she felt the need to cling more tightly to me or try to get closer to me, even though she knew that nothing inappropriate was going to happen or would happen. I do not know the answer to that question. PRESIDENT CLINTON: I don`t remember exactly what I said with her. That`s what you`re saying, I said. Managers presented their cases for three days, from September 14 to 16. January, with discussion of the facts and context of the case; detailed cases for both articles of impeachment (including excerpts from grand jury testimony filmed by Clinton last August); issues of interpretation and application of perjury and obstruction of justice laws; and the argument that the evidence and precedents justified the removal of the president through “deliberate, deliberate and deliberate corruption of the nation`s judicial system through perjury and obstruction of justice.” [40] The defence presentation took place from January 19 to 21.
